Job Description:

This position is for a fee basis Audiologist at the VA New Jersey HCS Audiology Clinic (located at Lyons VAMC with travel to the East Orange VAMC, as needed), part of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. The Audiologist operates independently, conducting a wide range of hearing assessments. Responsibilities include evaluating hearing loss, determining the need for and effectiveness of hearing aids, and providing aural rehabilitation and counseling for veterans and their families.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) or Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). HR office staff and management officials may verify a program's accreditation from ACAE at acaeaccred.org and CAA at caa.asha.org. OR Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, the CAA in Audiology and 3 Speech- Language Pathology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree or AUD programs in audiology Licensure: . Individuals must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Major Duties: Provide full-range audiology evaluations, assessments, and treatments for diverse patient populations. Independently and expertly manage complex clinical decisions and coordinate patient care across disciplines. Accurately assess hearing/communication/vestibular disorders using a variety of diagnostic tests and techniques. Apply contemporary knowledge to evaluate patients, develop treatment strategies, and perform modern audiology practices. Exercise independent clinical judgment, adapting procedures to meet age-specific and unique patient needs. Consult with physicians and healthcare practitioners regarding diagnostic evaluations and treatments. Conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine the severity of hearing and balance disorders, utilizing past, family, and social history. Perform hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and follow-up services, verifying device performance using electroacoustic and real-ear measurements. Conduct Compensation and Pension examinations, including detailed histories and special auditory and vestibular tests. Provide opinions on condition-service connections. Plan and implement patient-focused treatment services to optimize function. Document diagnoses, treatment plans, outcomes, and patient/family education in medical records. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to address broad patient care needs and provide diagnostic and treatment advice. Instruct veterans on using Debrox ear cleaner and handle its distribution as per standing orders, coordinating with the pharmacy for same-day pickup or mailing to the veteran.
