This vacancy is for a WG - 5220-10,Shipwright located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY KETCHIKAN in KETCHIKAN, Alaska.

You will serve as a Shipwright, responsible for aligning ships over blocks during graving/drydocking operations, building and positioning blocks, cradles, shoring and other support structures for ships in dry-docks and marine railways; and building staging around and aboard ships. The incumbent also performs all kinds of ship fitting and fabricating tasks involved in the construction, repair, maintenance, overhaul and conversion of a wide variety of types and sizes of marine craft and vessels including miscellaneous manufacturing projects in support of the US Coast Guard (USCG) Base Naval Engineering Department. Incumbent performs journeyman work which may include working on lighthouses, aids to navigation (ATON), barges, boats, ships and small vessels and their associated equipment. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Aligning ships over blocks during graving/drydocking operations. Constructing, altering, repairing or modifying items and structures such as framework, rafters, doors, finish paneling, window, cabinets, furniture and drydock blocks and softcaps. Serves as a Dockmaster and coordinates the actions of line handers and riggers during docking and undocking evolutions Removes, prepares underlayment, and installs epoxy decking systems. Removes and installs insulation on bulkheads, piping, and overheads. Applies a variety of fitting techniques that meet the close, tolerance, strength, fairness of fit and smoothness of contour in the performance of ship fitting and fabricating tasks. Erecting, maintaining, and removing shoring and staging together with related liferails, platforms, and accesses and ensure their compliance with relevant safety standards. Operating woodworking shop machinery such as circular saws, jigsaws, planers, joiners, and portable power tools; and to use a wide variety of hand tools.
