Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To qualify for this position, you must meet the specialized experienced and the educational requirement. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-05 you must meet one of the following: Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree or have completed a full four-year course of study leading to such a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Serves as a Natural Resource Specialist (Ranger) as part of a multi-disciplinary team performing specific assignments in one or more of these functional areas:
Recreation Management, Visitor Assistance, Environmental Stewardship, Interpretation, and Flood Risk Management.
Performs functions such as inspection, maintenance, and upkeep of recreation facilities and features.
Provides Interpretive Services and Outreach for public to include project tours, educational, and water safety programs.
Patrols project lands by various means to include lake and nonmotorized trails.
Uses Geographic Information System (GIS) to collect and record data, plot points and locations, and create/develop maps.
Participates in monitoring lake and watershed quality and assists in investigating sources of degradation.
Performs visitor assistance activities including patrol of project land and water areas.
Advises visitors concerning safety and proper use of facilities in accordance with established policies and regulations.
Assists with management of the project site dam and appurtenant structures in conjunction with daily duties.
