The Urology Physician Assistant (PA) is an important member of the urology team. S/he functions as an agent of the Urologist, providing patient care as an extender of the Supervising Physician's practice. As an agent of the Supervising Physician, the PA functions within defined levels of autonomy as outlined in his/her scope of practice. This position is located in the Urology Section which is aligned under Surgery ICC. RESPONSIBLITIES Responsibilities include performing initial and follow-up history and physical examinations, screening outpatients and providing ongoing care, ordering diagnostic tests and consultations, accompanying Urologist on daily rounds of inpatients, writing discharge orders under the direction of the Urologist, providing education and counseling to patients and families, and performing urology treatment. The incumbent is responsible for entering accurate, complete, timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patient's electronic record. This is accomplished by utilizing the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). The incumbent is responsible for the proper use, maintenance, and calibration of specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients. The incumbent adheres to safety, health, and infection control standards, regulations and work practices, as well as ergonomic standards. He/she reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate officials. The incumbent assists in orientation of new staff, and will provide patient and family education, including informed consent. The incumbent maintains supplies, equipment and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency. He/she demonstrates knowledge and maintains standards in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). The PA is expected to participate in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness, administrative duties, and other responsibilities assigned by the Supervising Physician or Associate Chief of Staff, Surgery ICC.
