Basic Requirement Advanced Practice Nurse (Practitioner/Ambulatory) Education: Successfully completed a graduate or higher level Advanced Practice Nurse degree from an accredited educational program. In the specialty of Practitioner and Ambulatory. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or your certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.) AND License: The Advanced Practice Nurse (Practitioner/Ambulatory) occupation requires passing the National Council Licensure Examination and possession of a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND License: The Advanced Practice Nurse (Practitioner/Ambulatory) occupation requires a licensure or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Practitioner/Ambulatory) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes evaluating the wellness status of patients; making appropriate diagnosis based on history, physical exams, and laboratory tests; and providing counseling and teaching services to individuals, families, and/or groups. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Administers health care services in an outpatient setting in compliance with state and federal regulations and meets professional standards, including BUMED policies, and the requirements of designated regulatory agencies.
Evaluates patients with acute/minor and chronic illnesses, providing compassionate, competent care and follow-up.
Makes appropriate diagnosis based on history, physical exams, and appropriate laboratory and ancillary studies, as indicated.
Prescribes approved medications and other therapeutic agents.
Assesses individuals and develops a care plan based on physical and psycho-social status and on the needs of the patient.
Orders appropriate ancillary services, such as radiographs, electrocardiograms (EKGs),and other procedures.
