This is an Open Continuous Announcement. This vacancy will be used to fill multiple positions. Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay)
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.
The Pain Service Physician practices to provide a broad range of services, both non[1]invasive and invasive for the treatment of chronic pain conditions emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. In this role, the physician provides consultation and management for both members of the primary care and all specialty care service lines at the Fargo VAMC, and its associated CBOC facilities. The physician practices to the full extent of their education, training, and certification. Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position. Functions of Assigned Duties: The physician is responsible for planning, administering, and directing pain care to adult and geriatric patients in the pain clinic. The physician must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. The incumbent is responsible to ensure that the highest possible quality of care is achieved and that a safe therapeutic environment is provided. The physician follows directives according to the standards of VHA. Major duties and responsibilities of the position: - Independently consults on a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on chronic pain management using evidence[1]based practice. - Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal pain management in a safe, efficient, and caring manner. - Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. - Order and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies. - Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Including appropriate monitoring of drug levels, efficacy, and side effects. - Follows requirements necessary for the prescription of controlled substances such as utilizing Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, checking urine drug screen at least annually, obtaining informed consent as needed. - Initiates referrals and consultations to other specialty services when indicated. - Provides education to patients and their families. - Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. - Exemplifies the ICARE core values of-Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence. - Plan for follow-up care and treatments appropriate to the initiated plan. - Document procedures, interval progress notes, telephone calls/VVC/CVT encounters and initial history and physical examination for permanent chart record on all patients seen. - Collaborates with other team members to develop and implement an integrated pain management approach that maximizes the utilization of complementary and integrative health therapies and active pain management strategies to improve the overall health and functioning of patients. - Assists/Provides initial review and triage of consults coming into the Pain Clinic. - Assists in Care coordination for all chronic pain veterans to include those receiving care in the community. - Provides pre and post procedure education.
