The mission of VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS), is to provide coordinated, compassionate and comprehensive quality primary care, mental health, surgical, intensive and extended care to Veterans in a timely, accessible and cost effective manner. It is a fully-integrated medical care facility with a dual campus and combined VA mission.
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/26/2025. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, OR Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed, OR Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience/Qualifications: Board Certified or Board Eligible Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
The Medical Director of Primary Care at the Jackie Walorski Clinic is a dynamic leadership position with strong administrative, interpersonal and organizational skills. As a key member of the clinical leadership team, the Medical Director will have administrative and managerial responsibilities for the PACT teams. The Medical Director will report directly to the Chief Primary Care. Major Duties/Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following: Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, managing, and refining a comprehensive patient management, clinical support, and administrative program. Committed to supporting Patient Centered Care, to include the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. Provide direct patient care and management of a primary care panel, which will be commensurate/proportionate with their administrative time. Oversee the quality of care and performance of primary care providers across all delivery methods associated with primary care practices. Maintains an active part in the peer review process and complete physician's reviews on time. Ensures appropriate primary care provider workload, efficiency, productivity, and patient access is met to include institutional benchmarks for clinical care delivery. Maintain appropriate clinical privileges in order to fulfill the duties of assignment within Primary Care Service.
