This vacancy is for a GS-0950-13, Supervisory Paralegal Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, CG NVDC RECREATIONAL VESSEL DOCUMENTATION DIVISION -NVDC-2 in Falling Waters, West Virginia.
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: Provides leadership to the documentation staff through subordinate supervisors. Directs work efforts at or indirectly supervises such work through subordinate supervisors. Plans, assigns, and reviews work according to the capabilities and limitations of the staff; establishes work priorities amongst all branches, and revises schedules for completion of work. Performs substantive legal research on complex claims and provides authoritative advice and/or recommendations to Coast Guard officials and counterparts in other government agencies and private industry based on finding of fact NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. You will serve as a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist and be responsible for the review and recordation of instruments related to vessel transactions, maintenance of records for public inspection, and the issuance of documents for all geographical areas of the United States. You will serve as the Division Chief for the Recreational Vessel Division. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Providing leadership to subordinate supervisors. Planning, assigning, and reviewing work according to the capabilities and limitations of the staff. Performing substantive legal research on complex claims and providing authoritative advice and/or recommendations to Coast Guard officials and counterparts in other government agencies and private industry based on finding of fact. Participating in command staff meetings and collaborates with other supervisors and managers on various boards and committees conducting business for the command.
