The Laundry Worker Lead (Linen/Uniform Distribution) position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS), VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS). The Primary Purpose of the Position is to perform laundry worker duties and lead a group, assuring that the work or training assignments are carried out.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The duties of this position are in the Linen Distribution Unit of the Laundry Section and involves the receipt, storage, collection and distribution of all linen items in use at this Medical Center. The incumbent is responsible for linen quota for using units, including clinics are logged and filled accordingly and delivered as scheduled. Empty carts are returned to the Linen Distribution Room, cleaned and restocked for the next scheduled delivery. Maintains daily record of all linen distributions, service calls and deliveries. Monitors and records "service call" for linen delivery. Ensures delivery within reasonable time frame, normally not to exceed 30 minutes. Promptly deliver all surgical packs (OR and GU) received from the Laundry Plant to the Processing and Distribution Section (SPD) for auto-claving and subsequent delivery to the units. Monitors all chute rooms and load soiled linen in carts and place on the Laundry truck to prevent chute blockage and expedite delivery to the Linen Distribution Unit. Assist in loading and unloading clean and soiled linen when delivery and pick-up is made. Inspects textile and linen received for quality assurance before storage and delivery. Perform duties in the Patient Clothing Room; picking up and delivering patient personal clothing and valuables. Inventorying and safeguarding of patient personal items as well as other duties within the scope of the position. Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of the Linen Room at all times. Reports all safety issues or concerns to upper management. Distributes and receives uniforms, lab coats, textile and linen to all hospital staff as needed. Logs all transactions and provide receipts upon request for tracking purposes. Leads Laundry Workers and Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) within the facility. Lead employees in performing work while he/she performs the full range of laundry worker tasks required to maintain the Medical Center in an aesthetic and aseptic condition. Passes on instructions received from the Laundry Supervisor and Laundry Manager to the employees, assigns immediate tasks to be performed to the group and checks work to verify the work was completed. Works along with other workers, sets the pace, demonstrates methods and techniques, obtains supplies and equipment while answering questions and makings sure all tasks are complete, and deadlines are met. Reports to the supervisor the status and progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures safety rules are followed. Work Schedule: Monday - Sunday 6:00am - 2:30pm; 7:00am - 3:30pm. Rotating weekends and holidays. May be required to do heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), standing, stooping and bending. Must be able to climb ladders, move heavily loaded carts and work in congested areas.
