Job Description:
The District of Columbia Court of Appeals (DCCA) provides early intervention mandatory appellate mediation to explore resolution of administrative, civil, probate, and family law matters. The Appellate Mediation Program selects, trains, and oversees seasoned attorney mediators that serve as neutrals and oversees a panel of pro bono mediation counsel that provide limited scope representation to pro se litigants that wish to participate in mediation. This internship is for Spring 2026.
Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized by United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern in the U.S and at least 18 years old. THIS INTERNSHIP IS FOR LAW STUDENTS ONLY Preference will be given to law students that are enrolled in or have completed a mediation course. A strong desire to learn about the mediation process is required for this internship. Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited law school program. The student must be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week to track ABA credit hour requirements Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted. This position is an unpaid internship. The intern's major duties are below: Learn about the practical and skills-based aspects of mediation Attend court provided mediation training sessions Research and draft memoranda on procedural and legal points of law Conduct docket research Assist the mediation program coordinator with reviewing and screening prospective matters to determine whether they are appropriate for mediation Observing court mediation sessions Attend professional association meetings and assist with projects
