Job Description:
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as the principal mechanic or technical lead at a large lock and dam facility operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. You will implement and manage site-level mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system maintenance, repair, and inspection programs.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform maintenance and repairs on hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems at lock and dam facilities. Operate cranes to move heavy equipment safely. Manage parts purchasing, maintenance records, and occasionally operated lock and dam controls. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. I can perform the above duties. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Serve as site’s primary technical specialist responsible for maintaining lock and dam machinery and support systems.
Independently troubleshoot, inspect, test, and repair complex systems including hydraulics, programmable electronic controls, motors, valves, pumps, generators, and associated controls.
Diagnose and resolve equipment failures using schematics, engineering drawings, and test instruments.
Provide technical direction to lower-graded team members or operators assisting with mechanical tasks.
Maintain heating, ventilation, utility, and backup systems including standby generators and compressors.
Perform or support lock and dam operations when required.
Operate heavy and site-specific equipment including cranes, dump trucks, and utility boats, depending on site requirements.
Serve as primary credit cardholder and/or inventory manager for maintenance purchases and documentation.
