Job Description:
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and the scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes. The Civil Division further defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia.
To qualify as a GS-13, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is having knowledge of the operations of the criminal and litigation process, procedures and policy and is defined as performing the following duties: analyzing and evaluating effectiveness of current programs by identifying program area trends, accomplishments, deficiencies and potential improvements; conducting specialized legal research in support of legal research of legislative intent and judicial process and case laws; designing, developing and implementing formal procedures to accommodate changes in the nature of investigation and prosecutions under the guidance of management; serving as a liaison with law enforcement and community advocates and assists with responses to internal requests for assistance; reviewing and interpreting literature on legislative intent concerning operating programs, investigations and prosecutorial issues. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases in the Superior Court Division for the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Typical work assignments will include: -Plans, coordinates, collects and collates data/information from sections aimed at improving operational effectiveness and efficiency in support of the stated goals and objectives of the division. -Develops details plans, goals and objectives for short/long-range implementation and administration of division operating programs. -Directs work involving multiple complex databases for internal case management of criminal cases in the division. -Collaborates with law enforcement and community advocates on behalf of the division. -Manages and produces responses to internal requests for assistance from management. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.
