Job Description:
You will serve as a Naval Architect in the Structures Division and Ship Integrity & Performance Engineering Group of NAVSEA HQ FIELD SUPPORT. The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the hiring freeze. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13 Equivalent), grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer or naval architect overseeing the development of mechanical and/or structural integrity plans to improve deficiencies in the construction, conversion, maintenance or repair of ship acquisition programs. You will serve as a surface ship Structural Integrity subject matter expert.
You will be responsible for engineering management of ship structural issues.
You will help plan and oversee the development and application of ship structural requirements, characterizations, predictions and performance assessments for in-service ship and new acquisition programs as directed.
You will help plan and oversee the execution of performance, risk, and affordability trade-offs for high priority and high visibility structures-related design issues.
You will help plan, coordinate, and advocate for program funds needed to provide field activity and contractor technical support and headquarters oversight.
You will develop and maintain Navy technical policy concerning ship structural integrity designs and assessments.
You will direct and supervise independent technical evaluations and structural design requirements, specifications, system designs and analyses, and life cycle engineering efforts such as maintenance, fleet problem resolution and emergency repairs.
You will possess advanced knowledge of mechanical/structural systems engineering and other concepts, principles, theories, practices, and techniques of mechanical/structural engineering and naval architecture disciplines.
You will possess the ability to plan and manage complex systems development and support programs involving interactions with a variety of organizations, laboratories, field activities, and contractors.
You will possess advanced knowledge of naval structural engineering as it relates to the design, assessment, maintenance, and criteria implementation for naval structural integrity systems/components and testing.
