Job Description:

The primary purpose of the position is to operate one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment, and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Reliability and Dependability Ability to acquire (pre-employment), possess and maintain a valid District of Columbia or State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher with air brake endorsement. This is a Testing Designated position and incumbent must pass a pre-employment urinalysis screening. (Requirement Notification). Drug testing is required for all individuals selected for employment in testing designated positions. The major duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator position include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment, and trash removal trucks. Operates trash packer to include operation of all controls for compressing truck contents and unloading at commercial dump facility. Operates vehicles with a gross vehicle weight up to 32,000 pounds. Operates vehicles over rough terrain, in close quarters, and in heavy traffic on both long and short hauls. Performs operator maintenance on all vehicles operated (e.g., monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections, and washing the vehicle). Performs semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance, repair, and janitorial work in and on various unit buildings. Does manual labor tasks, such as digging, pulling, cleaning drainage ditches, lifting and emptying trash containers, cleaning rest rooms, picking up litter, cleaning picnic grills, etc., works roads and trails in connection with raking and graveling.
