This position is located within Environmental Management Services of a Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives. Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening shift schedules.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The position is a Housekeeping Supervisor under the direct supervision of the Chief, Environmental Management Service or designee. The position follows oral and written instructions, interprets policies and work procedures as given by the supervisor. The position operates on own initiative and judgment with minimal supervision. The position keeps supervisor informed about significant trends, changing conditions, and major problem areas. Duties include but are not limited to: Delegate responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. Coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities. Responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned. Responsible for assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision. Plan daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities. Train staff and ensures that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Provide on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate. Provide proper on-the-job training to ensure the housekeeping duties are effectively accomplished. Provide special direction to new employees to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies. Schedule regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives. Keep the supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor. Keep subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit. Conduct in-use testing of equipment and/or supplies, providing feedback in regard to their observations. Ensure all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues. Supervise the daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and persons and ensures record keeping is timely and accurate. Approve leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants. Make formal appraisal of subordinates work performance and conduct. Responsible for the coordination of activities with other services, including rearranging work schedules during remodeling, painting and relocation of offices, clinics or patient wards and other duties which help coordinate moves. Inspect assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner. Responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment. Provide documented inspection reports and acts on unaccomplished work. Responsible for the removal of furniture in need of repair and/or replacement along with the initiation of an electronic work request. Responsible for the review of procedures, methods and sequence of tasks performed by employees under their supervision. Perform within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy. Receive general supervision and instructions from the supervisor. Work independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied and adjusting as necessary. Ensure time and attendance records are accurate and complete prior to submission to timekeeper. Keep immediate supervisor apprised of actual or potential problems and recommends remedial corrective actions. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM-3:30 PM Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid Supervisor/PD99912S Physical Requirements: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
