Job Description:

The United States Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting federal crimes in the Western District of Missouri, including crimes related to terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, firearms, and narcotics. The office also defends the United States in civil cases and prosecutes civil claims for the United States. https://www.justice.gov/usao-wdmo This position is located in Springfield, Missouri.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Applicants must have excellent academic credentials, significant litigation experience, strong oral advocacy and legal writing skills, sound judgment, and a demonstrated commitment to public service. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
The Western District of Missouri is currently accepting applications for one Assistant United States Attorney to be assigned to the Criminal Division in the Springfield Branch Office. Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) have the opportunity to represent the United States of America in United States District Court and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. In performing this important public service, AUSAs will exercise responsibility that is unparalleled in any other job a litigator might undertake. AUSAs immediately are assigned cases, some high profile, in one of the units within the Criminal Division of our office. AUSAs are responsible for prosecuting a variety of violations of federal laws, such as immigration offenses, drugs, firearms, violent crime, white collar frauds, and other federal crimes. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.
