About the Position: This is a Health Technician (Occupational Health) position in Dir of Medicine Fam Med team One (PCMH) Edson at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendelton in San Diego, California. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-0640-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which assisting with reception and/or clerical duties in a Medical Treatment Facility; assisting with maintaining and/or updating medical records; and assisting with tests, screenings, and/or examinations such as audiograms, pulmonary function testing, and vision screenings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Health Informatics.
Review all pertinent data and determine requirements for ancillary testing and program placement.
Evaluate patients for referral to nurse or physician.
Perform various screenings such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs) and review results for completeness and accuracy.
Refer abnormal vital signs, vision screenings, EKS, audiometry, and spirometry results to an occupational health nurse (OHN) or provider for evaluation per clinic standard operating procedures (SOP).
Verify and order all indicated laboratory studies, X rats, immunizations and other ancillary tests as appropriate.
Document pertinent data in the medical record on other documents, as appropriate for the examination being performed on both hard and electronic copies.
Comply with Infection control guidelines and practices including universal precautions.
Triage patients as they arrive, identifying those whose examinations/evaluations will need to be expedited.
