Job Description:
This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Facilities Support Services Division. As a Stationary Engineer, you will perform numerous and varied duties in servicing equipment required for maintaining a large industrial production facility. This includes operation, repair, and scheduled preventative maintenance of utility equipment, ventilation, air conditioning, heating and tempering equipment for production related equipment.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. A valid certification card or certificate in refrigerant removal, recovery, and reclamation. A four-year apprenticeship as a Stationary Engineer, as a Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic Journeyman, or four years of documented practical and progressive experience of trade skills to be the substantial equivalent of such apprenticeship. A four-year apprenticeship program in HVAC or have a journeyman mechanics license or background documented experience in industrial/commercial HVAC. You must meet the screen-out element Ability to do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen Out), normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions. To meet the screen-out element, applicants must have the ability to: perform a range of tasks as a Stationary Engineer. Work is performed using a variety of power and hand tools and safety equipment. Work is assigned in broad general instructions covering the scope of the task assigned. In addition, you must also obtain an average score of two (2) for the following elements for this position as addressed through the online question in order to be considered minimally qualified. As a Stationary Engineer, you will: Operate equipment on a 7-day, 24-hour, 365-day a year schedule, as a member of the Power Plant staff, in order to maintain required conditions. Check temperature, humidity, air flow and make necessary adjustments or repairs to analog, digital (DDC), electronic and/or pneumatic controls. Make periodic inspection of all operating equipment. Use a variety of measuring equipment, including but not limited to, voltage testers, multi-meters, manometer, flow meters, strobes, etc., in performing work assignments. (Note: Equipment measurements are made on pumps, air handlers, compressors, Central Facility Chilled Water Distribution Plant, cooling towers, automatic valves, primary and secondary electrical distribution switchgear, and various types of air filtration devices. On fan coil cooling and heating units, this includes diagnosing leaking or malfunctioning automatic valves and replacing the valves.) Test and chemically treat water used in cooling towers, chill water systems, hot water systems and process vacuum pumps that use water as a liquid seal. Maintain distribution, at all times, of high-pressure steam for steam operated production equipment and low-pressure steam for heating and humidity environmental control to meet the prescribed guidelines to ensure product quality. Record daily logs of all facility electric, water, gas, and steam meter reading usage. Record daily logs of all central cooling chillers and compressed air systems, in order to minimize downtime in production areas and to ensure quality. Inspect cafeteria refrigeration, heating, air conditioning and ventilation equipment, check incoming and distribution electrical power supply for proper voltage levels, check city water pressure, check testing laboratories and all printing and production sections for proper temperature and humidity conditions.
