This position serves as an Engineering Technician whose primary workload pertains to construction related to water and sewer facilities serving individual Indian homes under Public Law 86-121 Sanitation Facilities construction projects within the Oklahoma City Area IHS. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the: methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials. In addition to meeting the IOR above, you must also meet the Basic Requirement below to be considered. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Specialized Experience: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in; drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Successful completion of 2 years of post secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 (or equivalent). At least 3 of the 12 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization. CERTIFICATION: Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in trade or craft work where mathematics is utilized such as measurements, computer skills with use of software for reviewing emails, keeping daily task schedules and/or use of data collection. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Applies knowledge of engineering and sanitation facilities to independently complete construction plans, prepare draft construction specifications, and complete as-built drawings. Performs field surveys using electronic surveying equipment and electronic field book. Gathers field data to design community and individual sanitation facilities. Performs construction inspection for a variety of construction contracts. Assists project Engineer with portions of community system designs and in assembling contract provisions.
