This position is that of Engineering Technician, Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction for the Bemidji Area Office, with possible locations in Bemidji, MN, Duluth, MN, Rhinelander, WI and Sault Ste. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-04: Six Months of Specialized Experience: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Other examples include, experience with drafting and data entry in miscellaneous systems. Gathering data from surveys, field exploration both visual and physical. Utilizing surveying equipment to collect data, stake facilities and/or verify construction tolerances. Estimate cost of construction for water and sewer facilities Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. Specialized Experience Defined: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. AND GS-04: Six months of General Experience. General Experience Defined: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. OR Education and Training: For positions at GS-4 (or equivalent): Successful completion of 2 years of post secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 (or equivalent). At least 3 of the 12 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Construction inspection of on-going construction work and assist with construction staking to include designating locations for trenching, excavations, and facilities. Ensure necessary safety precautions are enforced on the job site to ensure safe working environment is maintained. Record locations of homes, utilities, boundary points, etc. with the use of a mapping grade hand-held GPS unit. Follow specific drafting standards established by the Area Office utilizing Auto CAD/Civil 3D software. Gather and record all pertinent information in regards to the home site necessary for the design of the individual water and/or sewer system.
