This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Commodity Management Division of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area, with responsibility for the inventory management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment (DME) in the assigned area(s).

Time-In-Grade Requirement: GS-7 Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Thorough, comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of complex, standard, and non-standard inventory management and planning principles, concepts, and methodologies requiring the application of sound judgment and analysis to provide services or resolve problems associated with EX systems and processes; knowledge of established planning and inventory management systems in weighing the impact of variables such as cost, existing policies and procedures. data processing requirements. and other issues that influence the course of action taken; and ability to maintain inventory control records in an automated system for items in inventory. Ability to search for arid analyze information; trace sequences of inventory management transactions to resolve questions; prepare entries for records systems; provide supply information, reports and services; and recommend actions to eliminate problems involved in delivering services to inventory customers or in implementing policies. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: managing a variety of non-expendable items and medical equipment; forecasting short and long range inventory needs; analyzing inventory management reports and the effectiveness of various options proposed to provide supply support; utilizing automated inventory management systems to maintain current inventory data; researching and analyzing information to resolve questions and issues, and implementing federal and agency programs for the return and re-utilization of medical supplies. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Involves a mix of working in an office environment to working in a warehouse to assist in processing new equipment receipts and entering into the EIL. A great amount of time walking and climbing stairs is required to conduct on-site inventories of EIL equipment. Lifting of up to 40 pounds is required when receiving new equipment at the facility and preparing for the sale of excess property. Work conditions are often indoors, but could occasionally be dirty, hot, humid or unusually cold when involved in property inventories, disposal of equipment, transferring of equipment between serviced locations and recycling centers. Work is performed generally in an office setting with access to a personal computer and computerized and manual equipment records. Frequent trips to areas throughout the VA HCS and catchment areas, including Veterans' rooms to conduct equipment inventories and assist with problems are required. Work is also routinely performed in warehouse areas where pertinent safety and security procedures must be followed. May be directed to travel to all VA HCS and catchment area locations to perform equipment management duties, transferring of equipment and disposal/recycling of equipment.
