This position is located in the Technical Service Branch of the United States Park Police. This position has the responsibility of managing computer systems and data processing activities at the unit. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 11/17/2025 whichever comes first. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for the Information Technology Specialist position, you must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: To qualify for theInformation Technology Specialist position) position at the GS-11/12 grade, you must meet the following basic requirements by the closing date of this announcement: BASIC REQUIREMENT: Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. -OR- Applicants' resume must show that they meet the required competencies in accordance with the Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210, Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR). Information Technology (IT) Management Series 2210 (Alternative A) (opm.gov) -OR- IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: Minimum Qualifications: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience at this level must include all of the following: experience conducting research to identify unanticipated threats; experience monitoring and analyzing network traffic and performance; and experience assisting in managing changes to the network. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, 3 full years of progressively higher- level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include your resume with hours worked per week annotated, as well as transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: Minimum Qualifications: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience at this level must include all of the following: experience analyzing computer or network incidents following prescribed standard operating procedures; experience testing and maintaining network infrastructure including software and hardware; experience performing network monitoring and intrusion detection; and experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting cyber security tools. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The major duties of the Information Technology Specialist position include, but are not limited to, the following: Plans, develops, and coordinates the implementation of computer-based services and applications in support of the Unit's mission. Assures compliance with operational and security requirements as directed by General Services Administration, Departmental, and National Park Service regulations. Develops local implementing instructions based on guidance developed at higher levels when multiple system issues and network systems are involved. Performs a variety of database management activities. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
