Job Description:

The duties and responsibilities of this position are within the Urology Outpatient and Inpatient clinical areas. They are to provide technical assistance in the urological care of the inpatients and outpatients while organizing and directing technician activities within the Urology Clinics on a day to day basis.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/10/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Individual Occupational Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledgeable of aseptic and sterile techniques and must apply these principles during endoscopic procedures, endoscopic surgery, and minor surgical procedures; must be familiar with handling, cleaning, high level disinfection and maintaining endoscopic equipment, including multiple catheters; Skilled in handling various specimens for culture, cytology, and other special studies in a safe and efficient manner; Obtaining patient histories, performing/charting vital signs, wound care, surgical staple removal, Urodynamic equipment, insertion, proper maintenance, knowledgeable of multiple types of catheters and problem solving Foley catheter malfunctions; Monitors patients during scheduled procedure and counsels patient and their family as to pre and post procedure care. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Physical Requirements: The work involves various physical demands requiring the employee to be versatile in the many functions performed. These include sedentary work performed at a desk with intermittent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of lightweight records and supplies (rarely exceeding 25 pounds). The demands may be unpredictable requiring the incumbent to adjust accordingly. May be required to assist the transporting and transferring patients from wheelchair or stretcher to the examination environment. Will be responsible for moving urology equipment as necessary. Sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to assemble and clean endoscopic instruments is required. The ability to bend, stoop, stretch, lift, and position patients is frequently necessary. Major Duties: Provide clinical care to patients requiring urology evaluations, screening, and diagnostic studies and/or procedures (Urologic exams, circumcisions, Trans rectal Ultrasounds, Prostate Biopsies, Genitourinary Cystoscopies, Vasectomies, Cysto Dilation, UroFlows, CMGs, EMGs, Voiding Trials, collecting urine specimens, Catheter care, Catheter changes, GU tumor clinic, and other designated Urology procedures). Perform urodynamic testing. Assist other Surgical Service Providers with minor surgical diagnostic studies and or procedures. Responsible for conducting specific observations and procedures, performing diagnostic and therapeutic tasks according to criteria established by the supervisor as needed. Serve as the subject matter expert and preceptor for new clinical personnel, monitor working conditions such as seating, ventilation, lighting, and monitor the clinic's safety/working conditions. Direction is provided by the physician, Physician Assistant, Nurse Manager, LVN or Registered Nurses as needed and act as a preceptor, informing the Nurse Manager on performance, progress, and training needs of the students and employees. Resolve simple informal patient or staff complains and report formal complaints to the Nurse Manager or an appropriate management official. Responsible for obtaining patient histories, conducting specific observations and examination procedures, performing diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, and assisting the physician with equipment and procedures. Monitor patients during scheduled procedures and inform the patient and their family of pre and post procedure care. Responsible for all instrumentation and specialized tests in the Urology Clinic, utilizing all technical skills required for diagnostic testing and/or therapeutic care of the patient, under the physician's supervision. Assist in the selection and purchase of instruments, supplies, and equipment, and will maintain proper levels of disposable and non-disposable supplies. Responsible for other related duties within the 2M Clinic as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
