This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, Position Description Number D1264000 and is part of the NJ FMS 8, National Guard. The purpose of this position is to supervise workers, either directly or through subordinate leaders, in accomplishing trades and labor work operations in a segment of an organization, group, or work shift.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least 36 months of experience which demonstrates the ability to: Direct and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Require the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Provide knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Adapt existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Demonstrate the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes.
As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, WS-5801-10, you will: Plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Assign tasks to be performed based on readiness and explain work requirements, methods, and procedures. Develop, publish, and ensure employee compliance with standing operating procedures. Manage maintenance backlog through coordination with other maintenance activities. Determine training needs of subordinates and arranges for accomplishment. Set performance standards, and make formal appraisals of subordinate work performance.
