Job Description:
This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Commodity Management Division of the Supply Chain Management Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System and supported catchment area, with responsibility for the inventory management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment (DME) in the assigned area(s).

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience for GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: managing a variety of expendable items and durable medical equipment; forecasting short and long range inventory needs; analyzing inventory management reports and the effectiveness of various options proposed to provide supply support; utilizing automated inventory management systems to maintain current inventory data; researching and analyzing information to resolve questions and issues, and implementing federal and agency programs for the return and re-utilization of medical supplies. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education (Related Field) or earned a Bachelor Degree (Related Field) with superior academic achievement that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education (in excess of the first year or 18 semester hours) and specialized experience to meet total experience requirements. Planning for inventory needs; providing acquisition support through the development of recommendations; responsible for forecasting short and long range inventory needs; providing acquisition support through the development of recommendations; responsible for analyzing various date points and integrating that information into short, medium, and long-range requirements and cost projections. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B., if related that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements: Involves a mix of working in an office environment to working in a warehouse to assist in processing new equipment receipts and entering into the Ell. A great amount of time walking and climbing stairs is required to conduct on-site inventories of Equipment Inventory List equipment. Lifting of up to 40 pounds is required when receiving new equipment at the facility and preparing for the sale of excess property. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Inventory Management and Control: Manages and controls an assigned class of expendable material for a VA HCS and supported catchment area. Recognize authority on expendable (EX) commodity management and serves as a subject matter expert to all services and service lines. Make decisions and commitments for the medical center on medical/surgical supplies that materially affect the VA HCS. Perform analytical work to manage, regulate, coordinate, or otherwise exercise control over EX supplies. Conducts forecasting and quantitative analysis; conducts spot checks; and complies with special requirements for firearms, ammunition, and sensitive equipment. Returns, Recalls, and Reutilization: Implements federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies; Coordinates disposal of surplus or excess supplies; Makes emergent procurement decisions; and participates in root cause analysis process Performs other related duties as assigned Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level, GS-9 without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
