The primary purpose of this position, PRECISION MEASUREMENT EQUIPMENT CALIBRATOR WG-3378-11, is to perform calibration and certification of electrical, electronic, and physical/dimensional Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3300 Instrument Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment, Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 25 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires working in a sitting position for extended periods of time, and frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping are required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. Work Environment: Incumbent typically works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. May be required to work at remote user locations under variable conditions or within clean room environments where special garments including head coverings, shoe coverings, and gloves are required. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises.
Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, test, and calibrate a variety of standard and nonstandard test equipment such as microwave and phase noise test consoles, high frequency sampling oscilloscopes, distortion analyzers, analytical balances, vacuum systems, pressure gages, and temperature/humidity indicators with a minimum of guidance or procedures. Provide advice and technical assistance to supported organizations. Use and maintain tools. Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment. Maintain records and document actions.
