Job Description:

The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is currently recruiting for a Chief (Compensation and Pension/Employee Occupation Health) to lead the facilities disability evaluation and benefits section for the Veterans population. This position is located in Temple, TX.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure or Registration. Applicants must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice podiatry medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training. Podiatrists must have completed residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are:(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training Preferred Experience: Board Certified In Internal/Family Medicine Three - five years of professional supervisory and leadership experience, preferably within VA. Knowledge of regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys, i.e. Joint Commission, OIG, etc. Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/.Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Use of fingers; Walking (4-6hours); Standing (4-6hours); Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
The Chief (Compensation & Pension/Employee Occupational Health)is responsible for the oversight of the Service operations in all aspects to include immediate supervision of clinical and administrative staff within Compensation and Pension/Employee Occupational Health. Duties include the following: Record and document the exam reports in CAPRI utilizing data and information from various sources like JLV, VBMS, CPRS etc. Physician will order appropriate required tests and follow up the results as per VA policy. Physician will communicate and collaborate with the stakeholders (including staff from VBA) in order to complete the exams timely. Provide coverage of Occupational health clinics as needed or as assigned, performing, completing, and documenting Pre-employment exams, various and periodic surveillance exams, different registry exams amongst other tasks. Complete medical records in accordance with facility Bylaws and VHA regulations Participate in the educational programs for service personnel as well as medical staff. Participate in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care. Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, peer reviews, and chart reviews. Educate Veterans and family members about C&P and Registry programs Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization. Be available to other service staff and clinicians for education, training, and orientation Educate employees in other service about C&P, Registry and Employee Occupational health programs Participate in committee assignments Perform other duties assigned by the ELT or designee Participate in, and complete required CME activities and VA continuing educational activities. Works to ensure timely, appropriate and comprehensive policy and planning; this includes workload and staffing projections, budget formulations, and the areas of patient satisfaction and cost-effective, efficient service delivery. among others.
