The major duties of the Maintenance Worker position include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment, and related utilities. Performs mowing (zero turn mower) and trimming operations in the Wilderness Road Campground and Colson Lane area to include horse paddock, and horse feeding when necessary. Performs mowing and trimming duties at Daniel Boone, Iron Furnace, and Civic Park areas to include the O'dell House and the Ann White House Performs daily custodial duties in all assigned areas and trains campground hosts on custodial duties Performs carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches, and catches. Performs painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels. Performs plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fittings or solder joints; replaces faucet washers; unplugs drains using a plunger; replaces liquid petroleum gas bottles. Replaces toilets, sinks, and hot water heater elements. AREA INFORMATION:Cumberland Gap National Historical Park is in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. Park Headquarters is in Middlesboro, KY. Middlesboro, with a population of approximately 9,000 includes facilities such as medical, dental, and shopping centers. Elementary schools are in Middlesboro, KY, Harrogate, TN and Ewing, VA. Southeast Tech Community College, which is in Middlesboro, approximately 3 miles from the Park, has a 2-year program. Lincoln Memorial University, located in Harrogate, approximately 2 miles south of the Park, has a 4-year program. Summers are warm and humid with temperatures in the 90's; winters are normally cool with low's occasionally 15 degrees; elevation is 1040 feet.
