Job Description:

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) Construction Division, Construction Support Branch, Warehouse Operations Section. The selectee serves as a Materials Handler and is responsible for receipt, storage, and delivery of construction materials to various job sites on the Capitol Campus and other locations maintained by the Architect of the Capitol.
You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
*** This position is temporary in nature and is not to exceed 13 months. This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved. This position is subject to the project needs of the Agency. Therefore, the appointment could be terminated at any time due to shortage of work or shortage of funds without any advance notice. If project work continues however, it could be extended beyond the 13-month time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency. As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management’s expectations, with no advance notice. *** Tour of Duty: Day Shift (4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) Hours may change due to operational needs of Management ***A Valid Driver's License and a Current Fork Lift Operator (Powered Industrial Truck Operator) Certificate is necessary for the position*** THIS VACANCY IS LIMITED TO CURRENT AOC EMPLOYEES ONLY Major Duties Receives, stores and delivers a diverse range of construction products and materials. Independently determines loading and unloading sequences to maximize space utilization. Unloads and uncrates vendor delivered construction related items, such as electrical, lumber and other building material, masonry materials, and plumbing supplies. Verifies receipt of documents and indicates the quality and quantity of items received. Places inventory stickers on material, updates inventory records and maintains an accurate inventory of on-hand and issued stock. Loads and unloads incoming and outgoing materials. Checks shipping documents to verify accuracy of incoming and outgoing items. Inspects equipment and materials to identify obvious damage. Inspects incoming shipments for quantity, quality, and condition. Sorts material for storage. Reports discrepancies or damage to the leader or supervisor. Operates hand truck, pallet jacks, dollies, and other material handling equipment to deliver stock to storage areas, warehouse facilities, or job sites. Operates a fork lift truck with a load capacity of less than 10,000 pounds and a height capacity of 168 inches. Controls stock movement, being careful to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials. Operates Motor Vehicles including a crew cab pickup, sedan, panel and flatbed truck, which have a GVW of less than 10,000 pounds. Operates vehicles over Federal state, D.C. and County Roads in all traffic conditions. Ensures safe receipt, storage and movement of hazardous and toxic materials and substances, such as paint and varnish removers, lacquer thinners, and varnish in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. Receives formal and on-the-job training to oversee the handling of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
