Job Description:

You will serve as a Boiler Plant Operator in the NAVFAC MIDLANT, PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Monitoring/evaluating performance of boiler and boiler auxiliary systems (i.e. boiler temperature, pressure, water levels, chemicals or fuel) and make adjustments to maintain system requirements; 2) Assisting with plant logs, laboratory records, and quality control records to document operation and maintenance on a steam plant; 3) Ability to adjust valves, control pumps, and regulate pressure atomizing burners, dampers, and fans to maintain correct fuel to air ratio for the most economical operation; and 4) Reading gauges and boiler water level indicators to confirm equipment is functioning normally. You will operate a boiler with responsibility for the operation of all equipment in the boiler plants during the shift.
You will fire/operate gas fired boilers and multi-fuel boilers with capacities up to 60,000 pounds of steam per hour, igniting boilers by operation of electronic controls.
You will regulate oil temperature in storage tanks.
You will operate as Roving patrols, maintaining hourly logs of all operations.
