The RN will provide compassionate direct patient care utilizing a breakthrough treatment modality for treating depression. This Full-Time position will work with a small team of providers/nursing staff and become certified in coordinating and administering noninvasive brain stimulation techniques for clinical and research projects. The RN will possess a high degree of clinical skills, compassion, understanding and ability to connect and communicate with patients and the clinical team.
Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.) Physical Requirements: This position involves lifting, moving and transporting patients, assist with transferring patients from wheelchair to to stretcher or radiology suite table and vice versa. Also assist with transferring patients to wheelchairs and/or may need to escort a patient to other areas. This position involves exposure to blood borne pathogens, fine manipulation, standing, walking, bending, crouching and reaching patients. It requires dealing with the acutely ill, with patients who may display disturbed behaviors, and with stressful situations. Moving patients and weighing patients in excess of 50 kg. or more. Wearing of a respirator may be required at times in the performance of the duties of this position. When required to use respirator, employee cannot have facial hair or any condition that interferes with the face to face piece seal or valve function of the respirator. The duties of the TMS RN consist of but not limited to the following: The RN will provide excellent patient care and treat patients with compassion while developing trust and rapport. Provide support, reflective listening, and compassion to patients struggling with depression and/or anxiety. Monitor a patient for medical emergencies such as seizures. Provide medical intervention in an emergency. Explain and administer procedures to patients. The Registered Nurse TMS functions autonomously under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and under the direction of the TMS program coordinator. The RN collaborates with the Veteran and interdisciplinary team members to develop a plan of care based on individual/family assessment and needs. Contribute to a positive work environment. Act courteously and with tact in dealing with patients, visitors, and the public. Maintain patient confidentiality. Follow established treatment and office procedures. The RN will maintain a high degree of accuracy regarding scheduling consults, appointments, and procedures. Ensure physician coverage for all treatments. Administer, monitor and document TMS treatments. Assist with research patients administering and scoring depression clinical rating scales for clinical patients every five days. Ensure that all patients receive and complete self-rating scales every five days. Provide patient/family education. Make no-show calls for missed appointments. Maintain TMS safety training logbook. Maintain TMS certification with NeuroStar system. Schedule yearly maintenance for TMS machine. Order TMS and other clinic supplies. Clean TMS machine after each patient treatment and replace covers for head rest, side support and SenStar. Keep track of treatments administered to ensure accuracy in billing. The nurse is responsible for orienting and providing training for nursing students, pharmacy students, speech therapy students, medical students, residents, and physicians working towards TMS credentialing. The nurse will participate in weekly TMS meetings, monthly TMS provider conference calls, yearly MHBS Health Fair and performance improvement activities.
