Skills and Knowledge: Basic knowledge of trade practices sufficient to complete simple tasks using common skills. Familiarity with safe use of common hand and powered tools. Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid state driver's license. If duties require the operation of a forklift, the incumbent will be placed in the medical surveillance programs and will be required to re-qualify, both on the training and through medical certification. Responsibility: Works under the direct and constant supervision of a higher grade maintenance worker/mechanic. Performs simple tasks independently after receiving detailed instructions. Physical Effort: Requires prolonged standing; stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside, and is exposed to dirt, paint vapors and fumes, possible electric shock, scrapes, burns and cuts.
Supports the Facility, Maintenance, and Repair department for a command Logistics Branch. This mixed job performs maintenance helper and laborer type duties. This is a training or worker position and may be tailored to fit any of the occupational trades. Serves as assistant to a higher grade maintenance worker/mechanic in maintaining all equipment and facilities in optimum operating condition. Assists in the performance of one or more trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, and other related trades. Such assignments may include but not be limited to: assists maintenance workers in performing general maintenance, repair and/or alterations to such items as doors, floors, floor covering, walls, ceiling, windows, electrical switches, receptacles and light fixtures, commodes, wash basins and showers; assists in performing repair of recreation/mess equipment and appliances and other related maintenance and/or custodial duties; assists in the performance of simple plumbing repairs, replacing faucets or washers; repairing toilet flushing devices; clearing clogged drains, and tightening leaking pipe joints; assists in the performance of light maintenance on air conditioning units and intermediate maintenance on equipment in the facility; and may assist in the performance of minor electrical repairs to switches and boxes, and replace electric lights, fuses and fixtures. Mows lawns using riding mower, adjusts mower blades, cleans and oils mowers. Using a weed eater trim along fence line, sidewalks, curbs and around plants, hedges and trees. Cuts and trims trees, hedges and plants using pruning shears, hedge trimmer or chain saw. Plants grass and other vegetation as instructed. Digs ditches and trenches using picks and shovels and where dirt is hard and compact using a mud gun, also does grading and sloping. Maintain athletic fields by filling in low spots with dirt and sod. Levels playing surface using an aerifier attached to a motorized cart. Line fields for different sporting events. Install athletic and playground equipment using picks and shovels to dig holes, mix and pour cement. Transports, assembles and disassembles and stores tents of various sizes. Transports and sets up crowed control fencing and bleachers. Assist the property and prepaid supplies section by loading, transporting, unloading, storing, setting up and arranging MCCS property, equipment, and supplies. Clean inside warehouse and around exterior of building. Drives motor vehicle to and from work sites, warehouses, and dumps to transport tools, equipment and pick up materials. Maintains maintenance shop in a safe and clean condition. Occasionally and for short periods of time, breaks up pavement with jackhammer, mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot mix, fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Observes environment, safety, security, and housekeeping rules and regulations. May be required to operate a forklift. Performs other related duties as required. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
