This position is part of the Agency Force Protection, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.
To qualify for the Lead Police Officer, PQ - 0083 - 6 , you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PQ-5 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience in the PQ-5 position includes: work that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. At this level, police work must have included patrolling assigned area(s) to enforce laws and ordinances, regulate traffic, control crowds, prevent crimes and/or arrest violators. Experience as a security guard or corrections officer is generally NOT qualifying . Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (12/15/2025) to be considered.
Conduct investigations, legal search and seizures, collect and protect evidence, prevent crime, and protect the life, property, and civil rights of GPO employees
Enforce GPO rules and regulations
Verify credentials to ensure only authorized personnel. vehicles, and equipment are permitted on GPO property
Provide immediate response to incidents involving security breaches, medical emergencies, and potential threats to GPO personnel and assets
Exercise authority to detain and arrest individuals based on probable cause
