EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0185: Social Work Series). BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: Social Work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the Master's Degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. MASTER'S DEGREE WITH PRACTICUM: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a Master's Degree in Social Work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following: GS-11: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Examples of specialized experience demonstrates the applicant's independent experience, knowledge, and skill in a organization's Social Service Program; assisting with the development and improvement of services aimed at child welfare and family services; receiving child neglect, sexual abuse and physical abuse complaints and conducting investigations through home visitation and personal interviews with child/parents; serving on a child protection team as case manager of assigned cases; recruiting foster parents; developing, evaluating, training and recommending approval based on tribal/state standards; providing counseling to unmarried parent(s) and also providing family welfare services; and establishing a helping relationship with voluntary and involuntary clients in stressful situations. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. As Social Worker, GS-0185, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to: Develop and improve services aimed at Child Welfare and Family Services on the Reservation. Receive child neglect, sexual/physical abuse complaints, conduct investigations through home visits, personal interview with child and/or parent, and may be summoned to testify in Tribal courts. Serve on a Child Protection team and assigned to an on-call rotation list. Provide family welfare services, and counstling to unmarried parents and families in the community. Monitor and recommend the release of funds from IIM accounts for minosrs, guardians, foster parents, etc.
