This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Commodity Management Division of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area, with responsibility for the inventory management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment (DME) in the assigned area(s)
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/04/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. For the GS-7:You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience would typically includes: Forecasting short and long range inventory needs considering changes in medical and surgical technologies, planning and reviewing all inventory processes, functions, and related systems; conducting wall to wall and periodic inventories; researching opportunities for and conducts analysis of potential cost savings, efficiencies, and process improvements using quantitative and historical usage patterns; analyzes and advises customers on supply/durable medical equipment purchase recommendations; conducting data/information analysis for acquisition planning associated with durable medical equipment. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a bachelor's degree. For the GS-9: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience would typically include: Acting as a central point of contact for the coordination of material support and the resolution of logistics problems; Maintaining inventory control records in an automated system; Managing inventory, independently sets initial stock and par levels, and reorders points and resolves issues; Researching and developing solutions to complex and routine problems; Compiling and analyzing performance measures and implements process improvements. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a 1 full year of graduate level education. A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position. Physical Requirements: Work is normally accomplished in an office setting; however, due to the nature of the position and duties, may be called upon to assist in the receipt, storage and distribution of various supplies, primarily consisting of lifting light boxes generally less than 40 pounds, utilizing appropriate material handing devices, and placing items on shelves or carrying them elsewhere on station or within the catchment area. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Coordinates with property managers for disposal of surplus or excess supplies. Administers an expendable inventory management program. Performs analytical work to manage, regulate, coordinate and exercise control over expendable supplies. Advises and informs stakeholders concerning the management, control and accountability of expendable items in use. Search for and research information. Researches and develops solutions to complex and routine problems. Ability to use bar code scanning equipment and appropriate tagging equipment for inventory control purposes. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm In addition to the assigned tour of duty, an assigned rotation for On-Call and Disaster Schedule for Essential Personnel may be required to meet minimum staffing requirements and service needs.
