Job Description:
This position is in the Washington Headquarters Services, Human Resources Directorate, Human Capital and Business Operations Division. HRD provides human resource management support to the Office of the Secretary of Defense and WHS, including providing guidance to leadership on complex matters such as key operational support and advisory assistance on civilian and military human resources, performance, labor management/employee relations, training, and voluntary campaigns management functions.
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. You may qualify at the GS-5 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: If you possess 3 years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-4, performing duties such as: analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gathering pertinent data, and recognizing solutions; planning and organizing work; and communicating effectively orally and in writing. You may qualify at the GS-7 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the G7 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your experience using the full suite of Microsoft Office application, ordering supplies and maintaining office equipment, and maintaining staff calendars. You may qualify at the GS-9 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your experience using the full suite of Microsoft Office application, preparing briefing materials for meetings or events, reviewing outgoing correspondence for accuracy and clarity, and maintaining staff calendars. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission.. A "certification" letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Providing direct reading support to visually impaired employees and accomplishing administrative assignments requiring knowledge of principles, theories, and methods of federal Human Resources. Serving as the division training coordinator, inputting and monitoring training requests ensuring appropriate documentation. Serving as the focal point and reference source for administrative and management programs and operations, providing advice and support including travel, correspondence, and document preparation. Providing direct, individualized support to visually impaired personnel ensuring they can effectively perform their job duties and fully participate in office activities. Developing, implementing, and maintaining office procedures to ensure efficient and effective operations and identifying areas for improvement.
