To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is directly related experience that included substantial involvement with a correctional program and provided a thorough knowledge of correctional techniques, or experience in meeting and dealing with people that demonstrated the ability to work effectively with inmates and associates in a correctional environment. Experience must have also demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties successfully. This includes: (1) understanding the problems of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates of penal or correctional institutions; (2) a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of an institution's internal policies, programs, regulations, and procedures; and (3) training subordinates, coordinating and directing activities and functions, evaluating performance of operations and the effectiveness of programs, and maintaining high standards or work objectives. This experience must have been gained in an administrative position, or in other positions that included the successful direction, or assistance in the direction of, an entire correctional program or a major phase of such a program. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience in reviewing and analyzing correctional services operations as it relates to procedures and security requirements and reports it to the Correctional Services Administrator. Experience evaluating controls within correctional environment designed to meet security requirements, disturbance plans, inmate accountability, and other related areas related to correctional services. Experience in planning and implementing institution exercises. Experience in reviewing and managing rosters and staffing guidelines. Experience in initiating and monitoring and overseeing monthly reports. Experience in conducting after action reviews, internal institution investigations and a thorough knowledge of security assessments. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. Under the direction of the Assistant Administrator, Correctional Services Branch conducts inspections throughout the Bureau of Prisons for the purpose of evaluating correctional services, facilities, operations and personnel complements. Gives guidance and direction with the work in terms of quantity, quality, and timeliness of various correctional Services staff in the preparation of reports, drafting replies for the Director ' s signature on Administrative Remedies, congressional inquiries and other general correspondence. Responsible for handling the most complicated assignments, which may involve unique issues having broad national impact. Responsible for directing special projects and/or workgroups in functional areas as directed. Reviews and evaluates correctional services operations and allied functions at designated institutions, including the inspection of security features such as key control, tool control, count procedures, locking devices, control center, armed posts, care and use of firearms, inmate accountability and control, use of Special Housing Units, entrances and exits and perimeter security.
