The Social Work Supervisor of the HUD/VASH Program, located at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, has significant personnel management responsibilities for the professional social work staff members assigned to the HUD/VASH Program.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: You must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Education: You must possess a master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. Note: A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in Social Work. Licensure: You must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. GS-12 Supervisory Social Worker Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Applicants with Florida LCSW, to qualify for APL Qualified Supervision Delegation, QSCSW must be on licensure. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work requires use of fingers; moderate walking and standing; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in on eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing aid permitted; clear speech; emotional stability; moderate duty. The Supervisory Social Worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of social work services provided in HUD/VASH, while also providing direct clinical services to a limited caseload. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The Supervisory Social Worker works with the less senior social workers and provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the program. Assigns work, establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, and communicates with them through the formal employee performance management system. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Reviews the HUD/VASH team for appropriate treatment plans and appropriate social work documentation including Hurricane/Disaster planning for HUD/VASH clients. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Incumbent works to resolve informal complaints and grievances. Assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations and HUD/VASH national guidelines. Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area.
