About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens This is a full-time academic tenure-track position with an initial term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. Faculty who attain the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor may have the opportunity to non-competitively receive a permanent appointment in the excepted service. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (PhD preferred) in History, War Studies or other Cyber-Related field. 2) Ability to teach accredited curriculums in a United States Military Academy (USMA) History Department War Studies Program as a faculty member and to mentor cadet research along with analysis projects; 3) Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and collaborative, novel cyber-related research and analysis in their discipline; 4) Demonstrated potential to work as a team on inter-disciplinary research along with conducting research, analysis and development to generate innovative capabilities; 5) Experience and ability to create cyber and war studies related courses curriculum within your discipline for inclusion in existing courses or in the creation of a new course; 6) Ability to create collaborative relationships and foster communication with individuals in academic, governmental, non-profit organizations, and private industry.
Conduct novel, cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research and analysis in support of topics related to operations in the cyber domain and war studies.
Teach introductory to advanced level undergraduate courses in Department of History War Studies Program to include advising students on capstones, theses, and independent research.
Work on cyber-related and war studies course curriculum within your discipline for inclusion in existing courses or in the creation of new courses.
Participate in the development of the new War Studies Program.
You will create cyber-related research and analysis projects in small teams comprised of soldiers and civilians, while integrating with cross-team research labs.
Develop and leverage partnerships through outreach that will benefit the Army Cyber community and support the Army Cyber Institute (ACI’s) mission and War Studies Program.
