Job Description:
The primary purpose of the position is to service all plumbing systems within the park. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Rock Creek Park is April-September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: Beginning of April Open to the first 100 applicants or until 12/15/2025 whichever comes first. Condition of Employment (Requirement): Ability to lift 50lbs: Applicants must demonstrate a degree of physical fitness necessary to perform duties. This includes ability to work for extended periods outdoors in all weather conditions, ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and lift and move heavy items (in excess of 50 pounds) to chest level (SCREEN OUT). Driver's License: Applicant must possess and be able to maintain a valid state or District of Columbia driver's license (SCREEN OUT).
The major duties of the Plumber position include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs preventive maintenance to all plumbing and mechanical equipment and parts. Installs, modifies, and repairs plumbing fixtures (bathtubs, showers, toilets, sinks, water fountains, and their associated hardware). Installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance to heating and cooling systems (including low pressure hot water and evaporative type coolers). Installs and makes repairs to sewer drain systems (these include septic tanks, drain fields, sewage lift pumps, and related piping). Cleans gravity type sewage drain lines, repairs or replaces potable water lines, and makes connections and repairs to water mains and fire hydrants. Packs valve stems, services check valves, flanges, altitude valves, gauges, and all pumping equipment used in water systems. Installs and repairs submersible pumps and centrifugal transfer pumps.
