Job Description:

The District of Columbia Courts, offers internships for students and recent graduates interested in seeking valuable experience in courts administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Courts’ mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia. This internship is for Spring 2026.
Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern in the U.S and at least 18 years old. Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school program. Preference will be given to students with majors in Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, Family Law, Communication Studies and Public Administration. The student must be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week to track ABA credit hour requirements. Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.
This position is an unpaid internship. The intern's major duties are below: Assist the Family Court Self Help Center. Provide legal information to customers. Conduct research and analysis. Draft pleadings, answer phones and ensure the Self Help Center materials are available and up to date. Observe negotiations in custody, divorce and child support matters. Work with the Family Court Supervisory Attorney on various projects.
