This position is assigned to the Environmental Management Service (EMS) of the Eastern Oklahoma VA Healthcare System, Jack C. Montgomery VAMC, a VHA complexity level 2 facility's Laundry Section. Primary purpose is to provide support to EMS. This work involves receiving, sorting, and marking soiled linen, assembling and issuing clean laundry, classifying and marking, inspecting for wear and tear, folding roughdry laundry, sorting and wrapping bundles and delivering to the wards.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Duties: Bundle laundry consists of personal items submitted from individual customerson a service-charge basis. Verifies items in the bundle are checked against the accompanying laundry ticket upon receipt and before return. Verifies specific number of bundles are processed together under one lot number with all lots being kept separate for reassembly of bundles. Determines and marks each item with the appropriate individual's identification symbol. Contents of personal bundles often include personal wearing material of unknown color retention and washability qualities. Housekeeping Duties - Cleaning laundry area- light clean of laundry area, carts and distribution machines. Handing of Laundry Bags/Pushing Carts Receiving Clean Laundry Procedures - Verify laundry weight of delivered items is accurate. Roll delivered laundry carts. Weigh laundry on cart and unload laundry from cart to shelves to appropriate section and counts. Verifies laundry counts by daily PAR for section. Delivers laundry by a designated amount (known as PAR) to designated departments. Delivers laundry by daily schedule and sequence. Stamping Laundry - Load individual textile into Stamping/Marking Machine/Press machine, by predesignated item/temperature by supervisor. After stamped, item placed into soiled laundry for infection control. Pre-marked bags added to soiled linen cart to be sent to wash facility. Loads Laundry Dispenser/Automated Linen machine per daily laundry Period Automatic Replacement (PAR) by section. Wipes dispenser's interior and exterior. Identifying Textiles terry cloth, microfiber, thermal blanket, bath blanket, gown types, scrubs, uniforms. Identifies markings/colors for specific scrubs and pajamas. Isolation gowns specific number of washings/life cycle. Types of stains for processing or life cycle. Inspects textiles for wear and tear - predetermined. Issues uniforms to employees and CWT's per uniform request ticket by verifying items in stock, notes missing items to be ordered if missing, if all items in stock, issues. Provides inventory counts to supervisor or Lead. Counts incoming carts with 5 days of inventorying items, and days determined by PARS and number of washes. Uses incoming and outgoing weight to determine laundered inventory is accurate. Takes inventory of returned uniforms, fill out return form and make judgement call if the uniform is usable or non-usable. Pushes laundry carts to deliver appropriate textiles. Delivers daily PARs and return overage to laundry room storage area. Pushes Soil linen up to 700lbs to designated area for pickup. PPE-Disposable Gloves, eye protection during soil linen handling, safety shoes. Returns eye protection to be sanitized by predetermined process. Lifting bundled or boxed laundry from pallets when laundry is delivered. Work requires frequent bending or stooping, prolonged walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing. Work requires frequent lifting and moving heavy items weighing 40 to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds. Work requires visual acuity to assure completion of tasks in acceptably clean and aseptic manner. Work requires the pushing and pulling of wheeled carts that weight up to 650 lbs. Incumbent generally works in a well-ventilated, air-conditioned, and well-lighted area. However, incumbent is constantly exposed to potential contamination and unclean surroundings. Many tasks require muscular effort and hand to eye coordination. Prolonged walking and standing are required. Incumbent follows predetermined work procedures but must determine independently when a job is done well. However, he/she is constantly exposed to potential contamination and unclean surroundings and must be able to understand and followprocedures. The work environment demands strong physical capabilities and the ability to focus. Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or diseases as part of duties.
