This position is part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
A. You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: Work as a Physical Scientist in the nuclear science field; Utilize Nuclear Test and Evaluation Data to resolve program issues; Develop nuclear effects responses to requests for information and FOIAs; Monitor program budget execution and track expenditures, and; Track sequence and timing of assigned program events and milestones (Experience must be clearly demonstrated in your resume). B. You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service: Work as a Physical Scientist in the nuclear science field as a program manager; Utilize Nuclear Test and Evaluation Data to resolve program issues, and provide expert recommendations to resolve substantive scientific issues based on past DoD nuclear weapons testing; Develop nuclear effects responses to requests for information and FOIAs and use their technical skills to provide scientific QA/QC to the developed analysis products; Monitor program budget execution and track expenditures including Program Objective Memorandum (POM) and year of execution planning, programming, and execution IAW PPBE process; and Track sequence and timing of assigned program events and milestones, by generating documents with schedules, work packages, technology planning annexes and detailed analysis/assessments of changes to plans and schedules (Experience must be clearly demonstrated in your resume). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1301 series. Individual Occupational Requirements for this series: A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. (Must provide transcripts) B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Must provide transcripts and experience clearly demonstrated in resume) *NOTE: Failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position.
As a PHYSICAL SCIENTIST (NUCLEAR) at the GS-1301-13/14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as the senior DTRIAC scientific expert, advisor and authority in developing nuclear effects responses to requests for information and FOIAs. Monitors nuclear and radiological program issues and analyzes, develops, and evaluates problems, and provides expert recommendations to resolve substantive scientific issues based on past DoD nuclear weapons testing. Originates new methods for planning, designing, and carrying out work of marked difficulty and responsibility involving the ability to access data needed for information analysis development of nuclear and radiologically aligned requests for information. Represents leadership at high-level Interagency and governmental partners meetings. Serves as an information owner for the DTRIAC collection consisting of historical documentation of DoD nuclear weapon testing.
