This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Incumbent services as Station Captain for the DES Fire Department. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing structural firefighting and rescue operations for a variety of emergencies, use of concepts, principles, and theories of fire control and extinguish to mitigate an emergency, plans distributes, coordinates, and monitors work assignments, administer basic life support care to victims on the scene of an emergency, and enforce policies and directives related to fire and emergency response methods and goals. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess the following DoD Certifications: HAZMAT Technician and Airport Firefighter, Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and HAZMAT Incident Command. **This position has a Maximum Entry Age. IAW DOD Instruction 1400.25, Vol 336 dated January 22, 2015. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be appointed or assigned to this position. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit of 37 but who previously served in an approved Firefighter position MAY be eligible for reinstatement.**
Station Captain for structural, aircraft and wildland crash firefighting including technical rescue operations.
Direct, schedule and coordinate work assignments for up to three fire stations and assist employees in resolving any technical problems that arise.
Perform fire protection related technical duties and perform fire prevention fire safety inspections of low-moderate hazard facilities where fire hazards are expected.
Administer emergency medical care and treatment for illness and injuries of occupational and non-occupational origin for those in need.
Make decisions whether medical treatment is necessary and may be safely performed on site.
Advise and provide counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.
Analyze an incident with the ability to identify, contain and mitigate a Hazardous material incident.
