No assumptions will be made about your experience. To qualify for the GS-03 level you must meet the following: Applicants must possess 6 months of general experience. Examples of general experience may include working in any professional, technical, or other responsible field that provided you with a familiarity of range management programs or techniques of collecting data; -OR- Education: To qualify based on education, you must have successful completion of one year (45 quarter or 30 semester hours) of study above high school that included at least 6 semester hours in a combination of courses such as range management, or conservation, agriculture, forestry, wildlife management engineering, biology, mathematics, or other natural or physical sciences; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualification requirements for this position with an equivalent combination of post high school education and general experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentary when completing duties in the office to frequent field work requiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending and lifting. Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The employee will carefully adhere to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
This position serves as a Range Aid for the West Desert District.
Assists with range improvement projects.
Makes vegetation counts from small plots of land.
Works with permittees/lessees on project maintenance and conditions.
Reports grazing violations or problems.
Under the direction of a higher level technician or specialist, may work with cooperators to complete weed projects with user groups, recreationists, volunteers, etc.
