The position is located at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) in the Environmental Management Service. The primary purpose of this position is linen distribution and recovery, soiled linen recovery, assembly of linen on quota of all categories for filing of exchange carts.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of previous experience in related in fields like housekeeping or laundry, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and good organizational skills. Understanding par levels. Sorting and counting experience in accurately sorting and counting soiled linens and comparing them to laundry lists or manifests to verify quantities. Participating in the regular taking of inventory, keeping track of linen usage, identifying damaged or worn items, and assisting with reordering, when stock falls below par levels. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties include, but are not limited to: Linen distribution, soiled linen recovery, assembly of linen. Collect, sort and distribute bundle laundry consisting of personal items submitted from individual customers on a service charge basis. Keep work area, linen, carts and baskets in a clean and sanitary condition. Clean supplies and equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners and water pick up machines. Fills exchange cart on a daily basis with required amounts of linen. Performs frequent linen inspections of wards and clinics may be required. Loads and unloads linen exchange carts from delivery trucks and trailers. Assist customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm. Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs. Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD39407A Physical Requirements: Incumbent is subjected to substantial walking, standing, stretching, bending and stooping. Involve lifting and loading baskets and carts with stacks of sheets and other linen items. Use proper mechanics when lifting. Most of the jobs require workers to frequently lift bundles weighing up to 25 pounds; however in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing over 30 pounds is required.
