Experience: You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the competencies listed below: Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. GS-7/9/11: To be considered for this position, you must meet the requirements specified in the sections titled Experience (listed above under requirements) AND Specialized Experience (listed below). GS-07: Specialized Experience: In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience include providing basic software/hardware maintenance support; maintaining equipment inventories; providing user assistance on basic computer applications and assisting with network monitoring and management. OR Education: 1 full year of graduate level education from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR Superior Academic Achievement: Successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, and my education has equipped me with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. GS-09: Specialized Experience: In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as assisting with projects such as imaging, managing, and/or deploying customer workstations and peripherals; performing initial diagnosis for troubleshooting user account problems and providing workstation user network account support; and assisting with Installation, troubleshooting and/or updating certified Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and customized software. OR Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science): a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. GS-11: Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customers hardware and software, performing network diagnostics and resolves network problems, resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability and enhancements and monitoring functionality, security and integrity of Internet and Intranet services. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR Combination of Education/Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education as described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Only graduate education in excess of 2 full years is creditable.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for a full range of IT Specialist duties. Typical work assignments will include: Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems. Managing accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment. Installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software systems. Assisting in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware. Maintaining telecommunications systems using knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems. Monitoring the functionality, security, and integrity of internet services. Managing internet servers. Analyzing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks and data. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
