This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. All of the duties described by this position may not exist in each location, but that should not preclude use of this position.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Vehicle Operation SCREEN OUTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Performed preservation, restoration or reconstruction work on historic and non-historic structures at the journeyman level. I have performed at least 5 of the following trades associated with maintenance work: roofing, painting, masonry, carpentry, wood crafting, timber framing, log work and plastering. I have supervised others performing this work and provide technical recommendations for methods, tools and materials used for the preservation, restoration or reconstruction of historic structures. DRIVER'S LICENSE: This position requires that the incumbent possess a valid Driver's License. Temporary maintenance workers perform a variety of building and utility maintenance and general maintenance duties for the Buildings and Utilities, Road, Trails and Grounds, Platte River Campground, and the Manitou islands. Work will include: Buildings and Utilities - You may be assigned to lead journeyman carpenters, plumbers, and electrician with projects related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating, air conditioning, masonry, and routine maintenance of generators. May be required to drive pickup trucks and other vehicles up to 1 ton in a variety of traffic situations and road conditions. May operate various types of power equipment. As a WG-4749-09 your carpenter skills and abilities will be expected to be advanced from a journeyman positon and will be expected to direct or demonstrate tasks to journeyman and laborer positions at or above the skill level of a foreman. As a WG-4749-09 you may be asked to lead a crew of similar position description on projects or assignments for operations. As a WG-4749-09 you will be expected to lead or oversee a group of journeymen and laborers or less experienced employees with the same job duties, and provide feedback to encourage a safe learning environment. As a WG-4749-09 you will be expected to provide material lists, direct project process, report project status, and adhere to deadlines. General Maintenance: You may be assigned to clean public restrooms, pick up and haul garbage; perform major and minor repairs, including some plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work; pick up litter at visitor use areas; maintain campgrounds and associated facilities such as public water and wastewater systems, fire pits, fish cleaning station, picnic areas, etc., grounds, trails, boardwalks, and otherwise maintain park facilities. These positions require that you operate light pickups, electric carts, small tractors, and other types of small power equipment and hand tools.Identifies and corrects job safety and health hazards. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices, hard hats, seat belts, steel-toed shoes, respirators, and protective clothing as required by the work being performed.Positions may work throughout the Lakeshore including the remote Manitou Islands. You must be willing to work anywhere within the Lakeshore.
