Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership has determined that telework serves a compelling DoD need. Positions will be filled at the entry grade of GS-04; the full performance level is GS-05.
Specialized experience is defined as: one year of Generalized Experience of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.
At the Full Performance Level, a Human Resources Assistant (INS) may perform the following duties involving providing support to one or more HR functional areas. Duties assigned to the entry level (GS-04) will be developmental in nature.
Processes a variety of personnel actions including promotions, separations, benefits elections, pay related adjustments and changes in employee data.
Updates, verifies and extracts data from automated systems using automated reporting applications in accordance with documented processes; determines the need for corrections and makes changes as necessary.
Receives and answers telephonic, automated and written inquiries from staff and current/former employees regarding position records, training history, benefits information and other related data involving HR operations.
Provides a wide range of information concerning all aspects of the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB), and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Program to employees concerning eligibility, enrollment, and basic features.
