You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-05: To be eligible for this position, you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: Experience researching and reviewing records, documents or financial accounts for resolution Experience resolving technical system and application problems/errors Experience communicating with customers orally or in writing Experience following organizational procedures using established guidelines Experience with computer systems and software applications OR EDUCATION: Completed four (4) years above high school in any field, in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of experience or a combination of experience as described above. AND You must meet the following special requirements: BILINGUAL POSITIONS: If applying to a bilingual position, you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in Spanish. You must be able to speak, read and write the selected language in order to be considered proficient in that language. If you indicate language proficiency, you may be tested at some point in the hiring process to determine if you possess the required level of proficiency. WHAT IS THE TAXPAYER SERVICES DIVISION? A description of the business units can be found at: https://www.jobs.irs.gov/about/who/business-divisions Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Taxpayer Services, Customer Account Services, Electronic Products and Services Support (EPSS), E-Help Desk Operations The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. Provides help desk support by recording the content of calls received from both English and Spanish speaking customers who are experiencing problems filing electronically and/or using electronic applications, products or services. Uses system prompts (including worklists) to resolve issues; and accesses various systems, research tools, and IRS technology to resolve a wide range of technical issues and problems. Supports the testing process for e-file acceptance and/or other registrants and applicants to ensure records are transmitted in the correct format and meets IRS electronic filing specifications; ensures required fields will post to the IRS Master File; and ensures providers understand the mechanics, and processing requirements of electronic filing and other e-products and services. Resolves error rejects. Reviews a wide range of schemas and business rules using a variety of applications, systems, and databases to retrieve the data needed to resolve reject errors and transmission problems. Extracts information from various systems, applications, and databases to search for required taxpayer information; investigates problems or errors, e.g., researching the cause of error codes, or performing similar actions. Conducts suitability to ensure tax compliance, background checks, etc., to various e-products and services as applicable to determine eligibility. Responds to contacts and inquiries regarding the current status of an e-file or other IRS web-based electronic product or service account. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-07, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-07 in as little as two years.
